Mizan: Over 100 Witnesses in This Case
The Central Court in Nazareth resumed hearings on Thursday, November 14, 2024, in the case of the murder of martyr Diyar Omari, a resident of the village of Sandala, after a several-month hiatus due to the summer court recess.
The court, presided over by a panel of three judges, heard testimony from four witnesses presented by the prosecution, including police officers and eyewitnesses who were present at the scene of the murder, which took place on May 6, 2023. The defendant, Denis Bukin from Gan Nir, is accused of killing martyr Omari.
The session lasted for several hours during which prosecution witnesses provided detailed testimonies regarding the premeditated murder.
During the session, Attorney Omar Khamaisi, director of the Mizan Human Rights Organization in Nazareth, noted that the phase of hearing prosecution witnesses was nearing its end. He mentioned that the next session, scheduled for December 2, 2024, is expected to be the final one for hearing the prosecution’s witnesses, after which a session will be held to hear the testimony of the defendant. Attorney Khamaisi also highlighted that the number of eyewitnesses in this case has exceeded 100.
Attorney Khamaisi confirmed that a verdict on the conviction is expected to be issued at the beginning of 2025, expressing hope that the defendant will be convicted of premeditated murder and face a severe penalty.
It is worth mentioning that the Mizan Human Rights Organization has been following the case of martyr Diyar Omari since the very beginning, continuing to monitor court sessions, maintaining communication with the family, and providing accurate information in coordination with the public prosecution.
