On Monday, January 22, 2024, the Central Court in Nazareth resumed the trial of Denis Mokin, the murderer of martyr Diar Amari from the village of Sandala.
The legal team from Mizan Human Rights Center, which is following the case on behalf of the family, reported that the court began reviewing the evidence and testimonies regarding the killing of martyr Amari. Today, the court heard the testimonies of the martyr’s parents.
Attorney Mustafa Suheil Mahamid from Mizan stated that the organization is accompanying the family of the martyr to follow the progress of the trial, although they are not allowed to intervene in the ongoing deliberations of the case.
He added, “The case is largely based on the forensic report, which proves that the martyr was killed by the criminal’s (Denis Mokin) gunfire. We noticed that the prosecution, through its interventions, is convinced that the criminal committed the crime with premeditation and intent to kill the martyr, despite the defense lawyer’s attempts to cast doubt on the criminal’s intent. I believe that, in the end, the court will adopt the prosecution’s viewpoint regarding the criminal.”
For their part, Ahmed Amari and his wife confirmed that their family’s life was turned upside down following the murder of their son Diar, who had left the family home to relax after a week of work, only to be killed in cold blood because he was Arab.
They affirmed that they would continue to follow the case to ensure that the criminal is held accountable and receives the punishment he deserves.
It is worth noting that the Israeli public prosecutor submitted an indictment to the Central Court in Nazareth on June 11, 2023, charging Denis Mokin with the murder of Diar Amari.
After committing the murder of Amari, footage was obtained showing the criminal attacking the victim while the latter was in his car. A physical altercation then occurred between them in the street. According to the footage, when the victim returned to his car, the criminal shot and killed him at the scene.
The murderer, a former soldier in the Israeli army’s “Golani” Brigade who had just returned from his reserve service days before the crime, claimed during his investigation that he “fired at Amari in self-defense,” alleging that he “was attacked and shot after feeling his life was in danger,” according to Israeli sources.
The village in the Marj Ibn Amer area witnessed a general strike in protest against the murder of their son Diar by a Jewish man’s gunfire on Saturday evening, May 6, 2023.
