On the evening of Friday, May 16, 2025, the town of Al-Furaydis hosted Attorney Omar Khamaisi, Director of the Organization for Human Rights Meezaan, for a legal lecture addressing key legal risks in the context of the ongoing war, now entering its second year. The event was held at the “Matnas” hall adjacent to the public library and opened with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by reciter Mahmoud Briya. The evening was moderated by youth activist Anas Masri and attended by several local residents.

In his presentation, Khamaisi discussed the sharp rise in arbitrary arrests, particularly targeting minors and adults without clear evidence, as well as the increasing use of administrative detention. He also highlighted the growing restrictions on freedom of expression—even through online engagement—and recent amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Law that now criminalize emotions and digital activity. He warned against communication with foreign media outlets or entities, which could be legally interpreted as “contact with a foreign agent,” and stressed the importance of remaining silent and requesting a lawyer when detained.

The event concluded with an open discussion, allowing attendees to ask questions and seek clarifications. This lecture is part of a nationwide legal awareness series organized by Meezaan, which began in Nazareth, continued in Arraba, and has now reached its current stop in Al-Furaydis, as part of the organization’s efforts to promote legal literacy in the community.
